Lusaka (Zambia), May 15 (IANS) Football authorities in Zambia have cleared four players who had been convicted of match-fixing in Finland so that they can start playing in the local league. On April 3, 2011, the Finland Football Federation convicted nine Zambian players for match-fixing and banned them from all football activities.

Zambia denies match fixing reports
Lusaka (Zambia), March 14 (IANS) Zambia's football body has reacted angrily to reports Thursday in the Ghanaian media that Zambia was planning to fix its game against Lesotho. Media reports from Ghana have alleged that Zambia is trying to buy their FIFA World Cup Group D game against Lesotho to be played in Maseru March 24. But Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) spokesperson Erick Mwanza reacted angrily to the reports saying it is just mind game being played by the Ghana camp, reports Xinhua.
Pilot killed in Zambia plane crash
Lusaka, March 13 (IANS) A pilot died but his co-pilot survived with injuries after their helicopter crash landed in Zambia's capital city of Lusaka Tuesday. The chopper belonged to Zambian Air Force. Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba said the pilot died after being taken to a local hospital following the accident which occurred in the morning, Xinhua reported
51 killed in Zambia bus accident
Lusaka, Feb 7 (IANS) At least 51 people were killed in Zambia Thursday when the bus they were travelling in collided with a truck in the southern African country, Xinhua reported. The accident took place in Chibombo district, police said.
Zambia’s football chief lauds plan to host AFCON

Zambia’s main emerald producer mulls doubling production
Lusaka, Jan 26 (IANS) Zambia's largest emerald producer, Kagem Mining, plans to double production in the next five years as it tries to put the country's emeralds at the forefront of the world's jewellery industry, a senior company official said. The company, which is 75 percent owned by London-listed Gemfields Group of Companies and 25 percent by the Zambian government, plans to increase production from the current 2.5 million carats per year to five million carats, according to Ian Harebottle, the company's chief executive officer.
QPR eyes Zambia’s Emmanuel Mayuka
Lusaka (Zambia), Aug 22 (IANS) English Premier League side Queens Park Rangers (QPR) are ready to sign Zambian international striker Emmanuel Mayuka following his splendid performance for both the national team and his Swiss club, the Zambia Daily Mail reported Wednesday.
The 2012 Africa Cup golden boot winner, currently playing for BSC Young Boys of Switzerland, has impressed QPR manager Mark Hughes who is ready to sign him for a deal estimated at 3.5 million pounds, according to Daily Mail.
The young striker has scored 18 goals from 55 appearances for the Swiss side since joining the team from Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel in 2010. He has played 36 times for the Zambia in serious competitions, scoring 10 goals and netting three times in team's maiden Africa Cup of Nations triumph in February this year.

FIFA to rule on Zambia’s protest this month
Lusaka (Zambia), July 4 (IANS) Zambian football's governing body has said world governing body FIFA will adjudicate over its protest on Sudan's fielding an ineligible player in a 2014 World Cup qualifier earlier this month.
Zambia protested to FIFA over the eligibility of Sudan's Saif Ali Eldin Adris in the June 2 World Cup qualifier which Sudan won 2-0, reported Xinhua.
"We would like to inform you that this issue has gone to the FIFA disciplinary committee. Their recommendation will be passed onto to the FIFA executive committee for approval," he was quoted as saying by Zambia Daily Mail.
Mwanza expected the outcome of the disciplinary committee in September.
Sudan tops Group D with four points while Zambia and Ghana are in second and third places with three points. Lesotho is bottom with one point.
