Yemeni president commends ties with UAE

Sana'a, May 20 (IANS/WAM) Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi has praised his country's relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The president said it in a statement on the occasion of the swearing-in of Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Yemen to the UAE. He said that the position holds particular importance due to the unique and important relationship between his country and the UAE.

Dutch hostage freed in Yemen

Sanaa, Feb 17 (IANS) A Dutch national kidnapped four days ago by armed tribesmen in Yemen's western region has been freed, the Yemeni interior ministry said Sunday. Yemeni security services have managed to free the man kidnapped between the districts of Harad in Hajja province and al-Zaidiya in al-Hodayda province, the ministry said. "The (man) has been taken to capital Sanaa and is in good health," the ministry added.

Indian company seeks to invest $1.2 bn in Yemen

Sanaa, Feb 2 (IANS) Indian Nagarjuna Construction Company is seeking to invest $1.2 billion in Yemen, Yemeni official agency Saba reported. A delegation from the Indian company is due to arrive in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa next week to hold meetings on the projects which will include an ammonia plant with a capacity of 700,000 tonnes a year, a urea plant with a capacity of 1.3 million tonnes a year and a power plant with a capacity of 200 megawatts, chairman of Yemen's general investment authority Yahya Saleh Muhsen was quoted by Saba as saying. The delegation will also discuss ways to develop the partnership between the company and Yemen and will pay a visit to the Aden free trade zone where projects will be established, reported Xinhua citing Saba Friday

Saudi diplomat assassinated in Yemen

Sana'a, Nov 28 (IANS) A Saudi Arabian military diplomat was Wednesday assassinated by unidentified gunmen in security uniforms in the capital city of Sanaa, Xinhua reported. "Gunmen in security uniforms intercepted the car of a Saudi military diplomat in a busy street in downtown Sana'a while he was on his way to the Saudi embassy, killing him and his Yemeni bodyguard," an interior ministry official said. 10 die in Yemen plane crash

Sanaa, Nov 21 (IANS) All 10 people aboard a Yemeni military cargo plane died Wednesday when their aircraft crashed near an airport here, officials said. The Russian−made Antonov plane went down near the Sanaa International Airport following an engine problem, Xinhua said. It crashed in a deserted market and was immediately engulfed in a ball of fire.
