Subsidised grain for non-poor families to continue
New Delhi, May 16 (IANS) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) Thursday approved the continued allocation of subsidised grain to above poverty line families during 2013-14 under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), an official statement said. Expecting sufficient stocks of foodgrains in the central pool, the CCEA approved additional allocation of 41.89 lakh tonnes of wheat and 19.84 lakh tonnes of rice at APL issue prices to states and union territories (UTs).

Chemists down shutters as part of national strike
New Delhi, May 10 (IANS) Around 7.5 lakh chemists across India Friday observed a one-day strike against the new drug policy and its impact on traders. However, in some states, pharmacy shops near major hospitals remained open, providing relief to patients. "We don't want patients to suffer because of our strike," Sandeep Nangia, president of Retailers and Distributors Chemist Association (RDCA), affiliated to the apex All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD), told IANS.
Chemists in northeast shut as part of national strike
Agartala/Guwahati, May 10 (IANS) Thousands of retail and wholesale medicine shops remained closed across northeastern region Friday in support of the 12-hour all-India strike called by their national organisation against government policies and their impact on traders. The dawn-to-dusk country wide shutdown was called by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists to protest the central government's new drug pricing policy, that according to the organisation, would reduce their trade margin on medicines. Tripura Chemists and Druggists Association president Ratan Kumar Roy said the strike was total and successful in the entire northeastern region, comprising eight states.
