Bangalore, June 18 (IANS) In a daring heist, a gang of six unidentified men stole an entire ATM, containing Rs.10-15 lakh, from a branch of the state-owned State Bank of India (SBI) in the city's northeast suburbs early Tuesday, police said. Karnataka to act against corrupt officials in mining scam
Bangalore, June 18 (IANS) Karnataka will soon permit the state ombudsman (Lokayukta) to prosecute senior officials named in the probe report on the multi-crore iron ore mining scam in the state, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said Tuesday. "We will sanction permission to the ombudsman to prosecute about 130 officials, including those of IAS and IPS ranks named in the Lokayukta report, which named them for their role in the mining scam," Siddaramaiah told editors of local newspapers and bureau chiefs of news agencies here. Asserting that the guilty would not be spared, the chief minister said though the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was probing the mining scam as directed by the Supreme Court, the state government had enough evidence to act against the corrupt officials.

Karnataka CM cracks whip for graft-free governance
Bangalore, June 18 (IANS) In an attempt to restore the sagging image of Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told top officials that they would be held accountable if a clean, efficient and corruption-free governance was not ensured in day-to-day administration. "I have strictly told all officials, especially deputy commissioners and superintendent of police in districts, to focus on administration and ensure efficient delivery of services to bring about a change in the perception of the people about governance, failing which they will be held responsible," Siddaramaiah said here Tuesday. Facility to test bird hits on aircraft in Bangalore
Bangalore, June 17 (IANS) The state-run Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and its National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) have jointly set up a research facility here to test bird strikes on aircraft using air guns, the institute said Monday. "The integrated impact and crashworthiness research facility is equipped with capability for bird strike testing using one of the largest air guns in the world," NAL's structural technologies division head Satish Chandra said in a statement here. The indigenous facility will also carry out tests for runway debris, hail stones and other foreign object damage as part of its research in flight safety and occupant safety, applicable to aerospace and automotive customers.
