Pretoria, May 19 (IANS) South African President Jacob Zuma was not involved in a wedding scandal in which a private plane of the affluent and well-connected Indian Gupta family landed at a sensitive military airbase, an investigation revealed on Sunday, reported Xinhua. "In any event, the president is not involved in authorizing the landing or not landing of aircraft at airports," Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Jeff Radebe told reporters in Pretoria. Indian, Nigerian teams win Africa business contest
Johannesburg, May 18 (IANS) An Indian team comprising IITians and a Nigerian team promoting low-cost farm products have triumphed at an India-Africa business competition held here. India's Life Catalyst Technologies and Nigeria's Jorsey Ashbel Farms won the 2nd Indiafrica Business Venture Competition held as part of the ongoing IndiAfrica Festival here, a statement from the organisers said Saturday. Four teams from India, two from Nigeria and one each from South Africa and Kenya made their final presentations before a grand jury comprising professionals from Africa and India at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Indian-origin doctor in South Africa cleared
Durban, May 16 (IANS) A South African medical body found an Indian-origin doctor not guilty of misdiagnosing after a suspected heart attack patient died the day he was discharged from a Durban hospital in 2008. The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) also cleared Soojatha Hariprasad of Netcare Umhlanaga Hospital of charges of failing to take a complete history of the patient, failure to admit him for further observation and failure to keep adequate clinical notes, the Independent Online reported Thursday

Kampala, May 15 (IANS) Uganda's national cricket team has been invited for a tour to Sri Lanka after the east African nation put up an impressive show at the just concluded World Cricket League Division III in Bermuda. Indian-origin doctor in South Africa shot dead
Durban, May 14 (IANS) An Indian-origin doctor was shot dead outside his surgery at Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Dr Bhavish Sewram was shot three times in his neck, back and arm through his car window Monday night, the Independent Online reported Tuesday. Police have launched a manhunt for the killer who fled after the shooting, wearing a "white hoodie".

Indian-origin mayor in South Africa faces racist slur
Durban, May 8 (IANS) The Indian-origin mayor of a South African town has said that he would claim damages from an officer for subjecting him to a racism slur. Afzul Rehman, the mayor of Newcastle in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province, has alleged that the officer in the town's Road Transport Inspectorate (RTI) had called him a 'Gupta' in reference to a recent controversy-ridden wedding in an India-origin family in the country who go by the surname of Gupta, according to local media. Rehman said the officer also told him to return to India if he was offended.
