Vietnam successfully test-flies drones
Hanoi, May 19 (IANS) Vietnam Sunday successfully conducted test flights of six indigenously-made unmanned aerial vehicles, a media report said. The "made-in-Vietnam" drones flew over the Central Highlands Lam Dong province, Xinhua reported citing the Van Hoa The Thao (Culture and Sports) newspaper. After three days of tests - May 17-19 - in Da Lat city and Lac Duong district of Lam Dong, six vehicles made by the Vietnam Space Technology Institute, under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), successfully made 37 flights.
Britain’s first astronaut to go on space mission in 2015
London, May 19 (IANS) Britain's first "official" astronaut, 41-year-old Major Tim Peake, has been selected to go on a five-month mission to the International Space Station in 2015, a media report said Sunday. Peake, a former army helicopter pilot, graduated as a European Space Agency astronaut more than two years ago and has been waiting for a space mission since then, the Guardian daily said.
4G to debut in Shanghai next month
Beijing, May 19 (IANS) 4G services, which provide mobile users with internet access up to 50 times faster than the current 3G network, will be launched in Shanghai next month when the China Mobile company begins large-scale trials. The fourth generation of mobile phone mobile communication technology standards orm 4G provides users with high-speed internet access on devices such as phones, data cards and MiFi routes, a device transferring signals to Wi-Fi for devices including iPhones, iPads and laptops, the Shanghai Daily reported. From June 1, China Mobile's Shanghai branch will invite 5,000 users to test the latest 4G products, including mobile phones and data cards, based on TD-LTE (time division-long term evolution) technology.
Rodents return to Earth after space flight
Moscow, May 19 (IANS/RIA Novosti) The returnable capsule of a biological research satellite landed in Russia Sunday, bringing mice, Mongolian gerbils, geckos and various micro-organisms and plants back to Earth after their month-long flight, the Mission Control said. Number of internet, mobile phone users soar in Brazil
Rio de Janeiro, May 17 (IANS) The number of internet and mobile phone users in Brazil has significantly increased since 2005 as more people from the middle and low classes have got access to them, official statistics showed. The tally of internet users rose 143.8 percent to 77.7 million from 2005 to 2011, and the number of cell phone owners rose 107.2 percent to 115.4 million, reported Xinhua citing the country's statistics agency IBGE. Internet access increased in all income brackets, especially among poor people, IBGE said.
