Doha, May 11 (IANS/CMC) Jamaica's two-time Olympic 100-metre champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce sped to victory in the women's 200m at the season's first Diamond League meet in Doha. Fraser-Pryce clocked 22.48 seconds to lead a Jamaica domination of the top spots with Sherone Simpson securing second spot in 22.73 seconds in a race held Friday. Simpson was followed by France's Myriam Soumare while another Jamaican, Samantha Henry Robinson was fourth in 22.97 seconds.

Syrian embassy in Doha goes to Syrian opposition
Doha, March 27 (IANS) The Syrian embassy here was handed over to the Syrian opposition Wednesday, a day after Arab leaders granted the Damascus seat in the Arab League also to the opposition. At a ceremony attended by Qatari officials, Syrian opposition figures and Western diplomats, the Syrian opposition's flag was hoisted at the embassy for the first time, reports Xinhua. On Tuesday, Arab leaders issued a declaration at a summit, granting Damascus' seat at the Arab League to the Syrian opposition and acknowledging member countries' right to provide all means of self-defense to the Syrian opposition.
Sharapova reaches 3rd round at Qatar Open

Asian Champion Trophy: India beat Japan for second win
Doha, Dec 21 (IANS) VR Raghunath's brace helped India beat Japan 3-1 giving them their second win in the Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament here Friday. India earned their first penalty corner in the 22nd minute with the help of Birendra Lakra and Gurvinder Singh Chandi, which was successfully converted by vice-captain Raghunath. Japan earned two consecutive penalty corners in the first half but Indian defenders thwarted both.
