Mexico City, Dec 31 (IANS/EFE) Two people have been arrested for the murder of 67-year-old Mexican actress Julia Marichal, whose headless, decomposing body was found Dec 2 in a water tank at her home in the capital.
The two accused were arrested separately earlier this week and have confessed to the crime, Mexico City chief prosecutor Miguel Angel Mancera said.
One of them choked the actress to death and the other cut off her head. The pair then placed the body in the water tank.
Police later found the actress’s credit and debit cards in one of their homes.
The victim’s nephew who was arrested on suspicion that he was involved in his aunt’s death was later released.
Julia Marichal was the daughter of Cuban actress Esther Martinez Penate who married Mexican writer Juan de la Cabada.
She appeared in many ‘telenovelas’ or soap operas, including ‘Mundo de Juguete’ (1974), and a number of films including ‘Las puertas del paraiso’ (1971).
