Two arrested for selling fake gold biscuits in Delhi

New Delhi, May 10 (IANS) Two construction contractors from Meerut were arrested for selling fake gold biscuits in the capital, police said Thursday.

The accused, Vinod Kumar, 30, and Mohd Mustafa, 35, were arrested Wedensday evening from the Jama Masjid area in central Delhi. They had come to sell the fake gold biscuits to one Mohd Ashu, who was duped by the duo into buying one such fake biscuit Wednesday morning.

“The culprits approached Ashu and told him that they wanted to sell 10 gold biscuits. Ashu bought one for Rs.2,000 and told the duo that he would return with cash in the evening to buy the remaining biscuits,” additional commissioner of police Devesh Srivastava said.

However on verifying the biscuit it was found fake.

Ashu returned in the evening and demanded the duo to return his money. “The accused tried to run away but were overpowered by police after Ashu raised an alarm,” said Srivastava. Ten fake gold biscuits were recovered from them.

During interrogation, the duo revealed that one Veerpal lured them into selling fake gold biscuits in Delhi, said Srivastava.
