Mumbai, May 11 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities markets was trading 146.58 points down at around 12.30 p.m. Tuesday, 0.89 percent down from its previous close.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was ruling at 16,273.47 points, down by 0.89 percent or 146.58 points from its previous close of 16,420.05 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 16,395.12 points and a low of 16,233.76 in the intra-day. The Sensex midcap was down 71.09 points and smallcap by 72.65 points.
The BSE banking index was down 0.32 percent or 34.64 points followed by oil and gas index, down by 0.43 percent or 32.5 points, and auto index, down by 0.56 percent or 54.84 points.
Major Sensex losers included Maruti Suzuki, down 3.13 percent at Rs.1,221, Sun Pharma, down 2.83 percent at Rs.575.90, Hindalco Inds, down 2.64 percent at Rs.114.30, ITC, down 2.62 percent at Rs.232.50 and ONGC, down 2.12 percent at Rs.254.05.
Major gainers included Tata Motors, up 0.88 percent at Rs.292.25, Bajaj Auto, up 0.78 percent up at Rs.1,514.60, BHEL, up 0.64 percent at Rs.220.70, Hero MotoCorp, up 0.50 percent up at Rs.1,852, and RIL, up 0.34 percent at Rs.697.
