Manchester, Aug 17 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Dutch striker Robin van Persie has signed a four-year contract with Manchester United, the club said Friday.
The ex-Arsenal forward is likely to make his debut against Everton in Manchester United’s first game of the season Monday, coach Alex Ferguson said Thursday.
“I am looking forward to following in the footsteps of so many great strikers, bringing my experience and playing my part to help the team compete for the biggest trophies in the game,” Van Persie said on the United website.
“His talents need no introduction to our fans – he has scored a number of goals against us in some classic battles with his former club. His movement, finishing and all-round ability are outstanding,” Ferguson said.
Van Persie joined Arsenal in 2004, where he made 277 appearances, scoring 132 goals.
He has scored 29 times for the Netherlands in 68 appearances.
