New Delhi, Feb 14 (IANS) The Israeli diplomat’s wife who was injured in a terror attack here is conscious and recovering, doctors said Tuesday.
Doctors at the Primus Hospital, however, warned that there was a possibility of one of her legs getting affected due to the injury in her spine.
Tal Yehoshua Koren, wife of the Israeli defence attache, suffered multiple injuries Monday when a motorcycle rider attached an explosive device on her car and sped away.
The device exploded with a thunder, setting the car on fire.
“The main shrapnel have been removed, the major shrapnel that was in her spine was removed last night,” Arun Bhanot, who heads the team of doctors, told reporters.
He said the shrapnel in her spine had injured a nerve, causing weakness in her left leg.
“Earlier, there was a risk of paralysis. Though that risk is not there any more, there will be some effect on her legs,” he said.
Shrapnel had embedded her lungs, spine and liver. While some of it has been removed, some are left but these are harmless, say doctors.
“Some shrapnel are still there in her lungs and liver which are stable. Unless there is bleeding, there is no need to remove them,” he said.
The injuries in her organs were stable. Bhanot said the future course of action would be decided as she recovers.
The doctors also said once the patient is stable enough, the family can take her back to Israel if they want.
Meanwhile, the driver of the car, Manoj Kumar, who was also injured in the blast, is doing fine, doctors said.
“The driver did not have major injuries, he will be discharged soon,” he said.
