Foreign aid for Pakistan social projects decline

Islamabad, Feb 16 (IANS) Foreign aid for developmental projects in Pakistan has declined considerably, the Pakistani Planning Commission has said.

Expressing concern, the commission said assistance for the public sector development program (PSDP) declined from $816 million in 2004-05 to $349 million in 2009-10.

The share of foreign aid in financing the PSDP declined to 10 percent in 2007-08 from 38 percent in 2002-03. However, it reached 17 percent in 2010-11, the daily Dawn reported Thursday.

Health, welfare and education were ideal areas for mobilising donor support because they contributed to the achievement of the millennium development goals, analysts said.
