UN asks Russia for more peacekeepers

New York, May 23 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russia has been asked to increase the level of staff it commits to UN peacekeeping missions around the world, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said. "Our peacekeepers are in great demand. We have been asked to increase the number of peacekeepers involved in UN peacekeeping operations," Kolokoltsev said after meeting UN Undersecretary General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman.

Moscow, May 23 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A drunk driver who crashed into a bus stop in Moscow, killing two adults and five teenagers, has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison. The car, driven by 29-year-old Alexander Maximov, crashed into the bus stop in September 2012 after Maximov exceeded the speed limit and lost control. Five teenagers aged between 15 and 17 from an orphanage for disabled children, their teacher and her husband were killed in the crash.
