Chennai, May 23 (IANS) After starting supplies of scroll compressors for two-tonne split air-conditioners, Emerson Climate Technologies (India) ltd is now looking at the 1.5-tonne segment, an official said Wednesday.
“We were the first to sell scroll compressors to split air-conditioner manufacturers. We are now supplying to companies like Voltas, Carrier and others for their two-tonne split air-conditioners. Now we are planning to supply our scroll compressors for 1.5- tonne split air-conditioners,” Deepak Takkar, senior vice president-sales and general manager-cold chain told IANS here.
He said scroll compressors will be in the niche split air-conditioner segment that focuses on higher energy efficiency.
“The scroll compressors, though a bit costly as compared to other compressors, will not increase the end product cost for the manufacturers as these would enable savings in other materials like copper, aluminium and refrigerant gas,” Takkar said.
Emerson currently imports the scroll compressors from its plants in China and Thailand.
“An annual sales volume of 300,000 would make us think of putting up a production plant here,” Takkar said.
