Mandya (Karnataka), May 28 (IANS) One-sided encounters marked the opening day of the Prem Sugars ITF Mandya Open tennis tournament here Monday when only three single ties were played.
Second seed Ranjeet Virali Murugesan prevailed over Vinod Gowda 6-4, 6-0. Bangalore lad Vinod kept pace with his fancied opponent in the first set, but faded away in the second.
The other two singles matches also saw straight-set victories in which fourth seeded Saket Myneni beat Abhijeet Tiwari 6-4. 6-3 and Sidharth Rawat defeated Saurabh Patil 6-1, 6-0.
Earlier, P.C. Jaffer, Mandya deputy commissioner and chairman of organising committee, inaugurated the event.
