Berlin, March 4 (IANS) Borussia Dortmund opened a seven point lead at the top of the German Bundesliga with a hard earned win against Mainz while Bayern Leverkusen shocked Bayern Munich with two goals in second half to seal an unlikely victory.
Dortmund carved out a hard earned 2-1 win against Mainz. Dortmund pushed Mainz back into their own half from kick off and opened the scoring through midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski in the 26th minute, Xinhua reported.
Mainz tied the score following a thunderous strike from Mohamed Zidan in the 74th minute.Midfielder Shinji Kagawa put Dortmund back in the lead only three minutes later.
Dortmund extend their unbeaten run to 18 matches, which is a new club record. They remain on top of the Bundesliga with 55 points and a seven-point gap to rival and record champion Bayern Munich. Mainz slips from 11th to 12th position with 27 points.
