‘Cutting down sugar intake should be global strategy’
Auckland, Jan 18 (IANS) Cutting down on sugar should be part of a global strategy to tackle the obesity epidemic, says a study commissioned by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The finding is based on an analysis of 8,000 trials and 10,000 cohort studies by Lisa Te Morenga and Jim Mann from Otago University's Department of Human Nutrition and Edgar National Centre for Diabetes and Obesity research, which provides evidence that cutting down on sugar has a "small but significant" effect on body weight.

Auckland, Jan 6 (IANS) Contrary to their laidback reputation, top surfers require peak level aerobic fitness with the right combination of strength, power and endurance to stay competitive and in shape, according to a study. Researchers from Auckland University of Technology (AUT) Sports Performance Research Institute New Zealand (SPRINZ) have shown how physically demanding it is for surfers to stay at top levels, with their heart beating for a maximum of 190 times per minute, being above 120 for over 80 percent of the time. The research, which Oliver Farley presented in his Master's thesis at the AUT, is the first of its kind in the world
