Mizoram to lay roads with World Bank aid
Aizawl, May 25 (IANS) The northeastern state Mizoram expects to get financial aid from the World Bank for the development of roads in the mountainous state, bordering Myanmar and Bangladesh, officials said here Saturday. "A four-member World Bank team visited various parts of Mizoram earlier this week. The World Bank officials are strongly pushing for a free trade regime in the region and keen to provide technical and financial support for infrastructural projects," a Mizoram Public Works Department (PWD) official told reporters.
Manipur, Mizo groups want Inner Line Permit reintroced
Aizawl/Agartala, May 17 (IANS) A Manipuri group of activists has demanded the reintroduction of Inner Line Permits (ILP) in northeastern states to "protect the indigenous and domicile" people in the region. "In the first phase of our agitation, we will not allow non-Manipuri people to enter Manipur between June 1 and June 5 if the ILP system is not reintroduced by May 31," Sapamacha Jadumani, spokesperson of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit (JCILP), told reporters in Imphal.
