Mexico City, Nov 2 (IANS/EFE) Ranchera music idol Vicente Fernandez will undergo an operation to have a "lump" removed from his liver after it was detected several days ago and he was forced to cancel his concerts for the rest of the year, his publicist announced Thursday. On Oct 22, the 72-year-old singer publicly announced that he was going to have a medical checkup after the small lump was detected on his liver, and now doctors have determined that it needs to be removed and analyzed. Fernandez is in Houston, Texas, accompanied by his wife, children, grandchildren and sisters, and from there he sent a message assuring his fans that he was calm and hopeful about the outcome of the upcoming surgery.
Mexican oil firm posts net profit of $2.45 bn
Mexico City, Oct 31 (IANS/EFE) State-owned oil giant Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, said it posted a net profit of 31.9 billion pesos (about $2.45 billion) in the first nine months of this year, marking a turnaround from the loss posted in the same period in 2011. Profits increased in the first three quarters of the year due "mainly to higher revenues, which rose to 1.22 trillion pesos (nearly $94.31 billion)", Pemex said.

"Much of the research is being done with new technologies, such as ground-penetration radar and low-level flights, which allow us to study the subsoil. All of these techniques are being used in the Mayan zone, one of the most researched areas in the world," National Anthropology and History Institute, or INAH, national coordinator Nelly Robles said.
1.4 tonne `Bread of the Dead’ in Mexico
