16 tonnes of hamburgers destroyed in Cyprus

Nicosia, Feb 14 (IANS) Over 16 tonnes of hamburgers have been destroyed in Cyprus following the horsemeat scandal in Europe, Xinhua reported. The hamburgers had been withdrawn from the market by an importer following initial reports about horsemeat products detected in Ireland in January, said a health official Thursday. The official could not say if the meat products had been destroyed because they were found to contain horsemeat or because they had expired.
