Kolkata, May 11 (IANS) Optical and eye care retail chain Himalaya Optical Friday announced its tie-up with London-based acclaimed spectacle designer Tom Davies.
The made-to-order collection will be available through Himalaya stores across India.
“Around 10-15 percent of our sales come from the niche category. With the latest tie-up we hope to consolidate the segment. The customised Tom Davies (TD) bespokes will be available from our stores across the country,” Himalaya Optical director Sarat Binani said.
The company is also planning to increase its stores from the current 57 to 100 by 2018.
“After metros, the company is now focusing on tier II and tier III cities as they would drive the investment and growth phase owing to the huge unexplored potential,” Binani added.
Davies, who has presence in 24 countries through 1,200 partnerships, expressed happiness over the collaboration and said he was mulling opening exclusive TD shops in the near future.
“I wish to open exclusive TD shops starting from London and then hire franchises across the world,” said Davies, who has designed eyewear for international stars like Angelina Jolie and Matthew Bellamy, and India’s Shah Rukh Khan.
Talking about the premium spectacle market, Davies said: “There isn’t a bad market for it. If you are with the right partner who has a successful business, then you will have your buyers.”
