Work during Pregnancy – Do’s and Don’ts

Working during pregnancy is something you cannot avoid these days. Being pregnant, however, is a real challenge at the workplace. If you know how to calm down the common pregnancy discomfort you would be able to perform better on the job.  Try the following tips while working when you are pregnant.

  1. Follow a healthy diet. Include iron and protein rich food in your daily diet. This will keep you away from anemia and the fatigue caused by iron deficiency.

  2. A short walk once in a while can bring back your energy level if you are confined to the work table throughout the day.

  3. Cut short your evening activities as far as possible so that you get ample rest after work.

  4. Sleep 8-9 hours at night to keep you fit for work every day. In addition, make sure that you go to bed early.

  5. Drink at least 1litre of water during the day

  6. Try to engage in light physical activities like a 10minutes slow walking in the evenings

  7. Try to eat at least 7 times a day- breakfast, morning 11 snacks, lunch, and afternoon 3.30 snacks; evening 5.30, dinner, and supper.

  8. Close your eyes and take short breaks while working. Never work for long hours at a single stretch.

  9. Avoid wearing tight clothes.

  10. Try to minimize your working hours to 30 per week during the last trimester.

  11. Catch up on a nap during lunch break

  12. Try to rely on your colleagues to lessen your responsibilities

  13. Back pain can be a problem during pregnancy. Warm Dhanwandharam oil can be applied at the back to get relief.

  14. Swelling on feet is another issue. Avoid standing or sitting for long time, and walking long distance also is not good. An effective remedy for swelling is to drink boiled barley water.

If you can apply these techniques working will be effective even when you are in the last trimester of your pregnancy.
