Mukerjee bats for vocational training, confers honorary degree on Karzai
Jalandhar, May 20 (IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee Monday called upon universities to lay emphasis on imparting vocational training to youth in the country while pointing out that by 2020, two-third of the workforce in the world would be from India. Addressing a gathering at the third convocation of the Lovely Professional University (LPU) near here, Mukherjee, who conferred an honorary degree of the varsity on Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, said that India is adding 1.2 crore workforce each year and it was the universities' responsibility to convert this manpower into productive hands by imparting them vocational training to enhance their employability.
Assam Police crack down on impersonation in CEE

Nagaland governor to get doctorate degree in Himachal
Shimla, May 20 (IANS) Nagaland Governor and former CBI director Ashwani Kumar will be awarded an honorary doctorate at a convocation of Himachal Pradesh University here to be presided over by President Pranab Mukherjee May 24, a statement said here Monday. A total of 272 doctorate degrees, including the most prestigious degree in doctorate of science, will be conferred on the candidates, besides 244 gold medals and prizes, a university statement said.
Indian university lecturer arrested in UAE
Dubai, May 20 (IANS) An Indian university lecturer who had come to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a short visit has been arrested by police here for blogging against a Dubai-based university. Though a report in the Gulf Times did not name either the lecturer or the university in India he works in, it said that he had finished his term in the private university at Dubai's Academic City a year ago, but his contract was terminated without any reason. A Dubai court later ruled in his favour and he got his end-of-service benefits.
DU students petition Sonia Gandhi on four-year course

President to attend varsity convocation in Punjab
