Tripoli, May 1 (IANS) Some 170 prisoners escaped Tuesday from a prison in Libya's Sebha, some 800 km from Tripoli, Xinhua reported citing an official. Abobker Hamza, Sebha's local council spokesman, said the escape took place after a dispute among the prisoners turned into chaos.

Gaddafi’s son’s trial postponed till May
Tripoli, Jan 17 (IANS) The trial of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of slain Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, began Thursday but was postponed till May 2 due to the absence of his lawyer, Xinhua reported. The trial took place in Zentan, 150 km from the capital Tripoli, but Saif's lawyer Melinda Taylor was absent, an official said. Libya's justice ministry earlier announced that Saif al-Islam, along with former prime minister al-Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmoudi and former intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senoussi, would be tried as soon as questioning was completed
Gaddafi’s son, spy chief to be tried in Libya
Tripoli, Jan 14 (IANS) Slain Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's eldest son Saif al-Islam Gaddafi and intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senoussi will stand trial in Libya as early as next month, Xinhua reported Monday. Tara Barra, spokesperson for Libya's attorney general, said Saif and Senoussi will be put on trial after the completion of questioning of Senoussi.
Libyan intelligence officer slain
Tripoli, Dec 28 (IANS/EFE) A member of the intelligence services was slain Thursday in a Libyan town, official sources told EFE. The victim, Mohammed el Fekhari, was at home in Al Abyar, a town 50 km southeast of Benghazi, when someone knocked on the door, asked for the intelligence officer and shot him. Authorities are still trying to identify the shooter, who fled in a vehicle, the sources said.
‘Gaddafi’s son Khamis dies of injuries in clashes’
Tripoli, Oct 21 (IANS) Khamis, son of slain Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has died following clashes with government forces, Xinhua reported. The Libyan national congress' spokesperson Omar Hamidan, said in a televised speech that Khamis died Saturday of injuries he sustained during exchange of fire with government forces in Bani Walid town, about 170 km from capital city of Tripoli. Bani Walid, a former Gaddafi stronghold, has witnessed days of clashes after being sieged by factions which demanded the handover of a number of people accused of kidnapping and torturing Omran Shaban, who reportedly captured Gaddafi during last year's conflict.
Abducted Iranians released in Libya
Tripoli, Oct 7 (IANS) Seven Iranian aid workers, who were abducted by unidentified people and detained for over two months in Libya, have been set free, Iran's Ambassador to Libya Hussein Akbari said.
