Rome, April 10 (IANS/AKI) A medical orderly in Italy was Wednesday found guilty of manslaughter after a woman patient died of head injuries when he dropped her from a stretcher. Italy's Court of Cassation rejected the orderly's defence that he tripped on uneven ground due to poor lighting in the grounds of the Cardarelli hospital in the southern city of Naples.
Parcel bomb sent to Italian daily’s office
Turin, April 10 (IANS/AKI) Media outlets in Italy have been put on high alert after a parcel bomb was sent to the offices of leading Italian newspaper La Stampa in the northern city of Turin. The device was live but failed to explode Tuesday due to a defect in the primer, according to bomb disposal experts sent to defuse it.

Rome derby marred by fan violence
Rome, April 9 (IANS) The Italian Serie A Rome derby between Roma and Lazio was marred by fan violence, leading to some getting stabbed. ANSA new agency reported at least four fans were stabbed and an ambulance was abandoned after fireworks, rocks and sticks were thrown at it Monday. The game was played at the Stadio Olimpico and nearby stores closed early ahead of the night game.
World Karting: Podium for Maini, Daruvala
Sarno (Italy), April 9 (IANS) India's Kush Maini and Jehan Daruvala finished second and third in their respective categories in the second round of the World Karting Championships here. Bangalore-based Maini, by virtue of his second place finish, added 30 points and another 10 for the third place in the pre-finals to take his tally to 100, while leader Martinez Eliseo trails by 27. The final Sunday was a very close race with 34 Karts taking part and Maini, starting third on the grid, got off to a very good start and was in second place right behind Rasmus Lindh of Sweden.
Indian confesses to killing wife, daughter in Italy
Cisterna di Latina (Italy), April 9 (IANS/AKI) An Indian labourer has confessed to stabbing to death his Italian wife and her teenage daughter south of Rome in a fit of rage over money. Kumar Raj confessed to the fatal stabbings of 56-year-old Francesca Di Grazia and her 19-year-old daughter Martina Incocciati early Saturday at their home outside the town of Cisterna di Latina. "I was exasperated - they kept asking me for more and more money," Raj, 35, told police during questioning, as cited Monday by Latina Oggi newspaper.

Italy president assigns facilitators to end impasse
Rome, March 31 (IANS) Italian President Giorgio Napolitano has asked 10 experts and political figures to help solve the political impasse stemming from February's inconclusive general elections. The figures included the former president of Italy's Constitutional Court, Valerio Onida, the head of national statistics institute Istat Enrico Giovannini, as well as leading politicians belonging to the main forces in parliament, reports Xinhua. Napolitano's decision follows intensive but fruitless meetings with parties Friday to try to reach a consensus after Pier Luigi Bersani, whose center-left coalition was the most voted in the Feb 24-25 elections, failed to persuade the other forces to support a center-Left government.
