Penpal is used by the visually impaired to assist in reading printed materials. It is a pen which is used to scan a document using OCR (Optical character recognition) and then convert the editable text in that image into a word file. A font identification tag is used in order to scan the particular font of each document. The text document is then cross referenced with a word repository for maximum accuracy and then converted to an audio file. This is done using a Text to Speech synthesizer. A visually impaired person can then hear the text document through an ear device. The accuracy is 78.3% per 100 words.
