Azerbaijan not to join NATO

Baku, May 25 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Azerbaijan will join neither NATO nor the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), but is prepared to cooperate with both, a presidential aide said. "As Azerbaijan has been participating in NATO's Partnership for Peace programme since 1995, we envision our future security model within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement," said Ali Gasanov, head of the presidential department for socio-political issues.

Three killed in helicopter crash in Azerbaijan

Baku, Feb 12 (IANS/RIA Novosti) All three crew members of a Mi-17 Hip helicopter were killed when it crashed into the Caspian Sea, the Azerbaijan defence ministry said. The body of one crew member was recovered, the ministry said. The Mi-17, which belonged to the Azerbaijani Air Force and was used for medical evacuation, disappeared from the radar screens Monday morning.

Baku, Nov 17 (IANS) Senior coach of the Azerbaijani national freestyle wrestling team Firdovsi Umudov was announced the best in the world at the seminar of the freestyle wrestling trainers association of International Wrestling Federation (FILA) in Bulgarian capital of Sofia. FILA President Raphael Martinetti who opened the seminar, awarded Firdovsi Umudov with a special cup, gold medal and a certificate of the best coach of the world 2012, reports Xinhua. Umudov has been awarded by the Technical Committee of FILA, which oversees the work of coaches throughout the year.
